When I think of the culture in which Jesus lived, and the lack of political activism on his part, it gives me pause. The Roman government in that day was incredibly corrupt. Yet, Jesus was completely silent. In fact, the only instance I can think of where he referenced governmental controls was when he instructed us to pay our taxes ("Render unto Caeser...").
Politically speaking, I do not expect our government to express nor enforce my Christian beliefs. There are certain issues that are worthy of lobby and activism. However, "legislated morality" is a tough road at best.
Actually, I am not sure if I agree with you who am I. Well, I agree with everything you said, it's just that I think that politics and religion where more intertwined then than they are now. Back then, the Pharisees and Sadducees had a lot of control politically, at least over the Jewish people. And we all know that Jesus addressed them a ton. But unless I am wrong, Jesus' dislike for them would count him a political activist! Today, politics and religion are so separate, it is difficult to mistake one for the other
